As the holiday season approaches, it’s a good time to bundle up the family and take in the beautiful holiday light displays in the area.

The City of Gaithersburg Winter Lights Festival is getting ready to welcome visitors for its 24th spectacular season. The wondrous display of lights at Seneca Creek State Park will be open nightly November 29 through December 31 (closed Dec. 25). The 3.5 mile drive through the enchanted setting of Seneca Creek State Park takes you past more than 450 illuminated displays and beautifully lit trees that light up the night. The park is located at 11950 Clopper Road, conveniently accessible from I-270.

Make a new holiday tradition at the Garden of Lights Walk Through Light Display at Brookside Gardens, open nightly November 22 through January 1 (closed Dec. 24,25). Step into a magical winter wonderland illuminated with more than one million dazzling colorful lights shaped into hand-crafted, original art forms of flowers, animals and other natural elements. Stroll from garden to garden enjoying twinkling tree forms, fountains, sparkling snowflakes overhead and more.

Join the thousands of visitors who make ZooLights at the National Zoo a part of their annual holiday tradition. ZooLights includes live music performances, tasty winter treats, and plenty of opportunities for holiday shopping. More than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland. New this year: enjoy dozens of large, glowing animal lanterns and stroll through thousands of reflecting lights as part of the interactive ⁠art exhibit called "Entre Les Rangs."  Open November 9 – January 1, 5 - 9PM (Except December 24, 25).

A new adventure awaits Nationals Park with Enchant Christmas Light Maze and Market. “Enter a living storybook of larger-than-life, stunning light sculptures and decadent delights as snow falls gently all around you.” Then check out the Christmas Market where over 2 dozen vendors will be set up each evening to help you find gifts for everyone on your list. Nov.22-Dec. 29.

Enjoy visiting eighteen unique lighted boats sailing on Carroll Creek Linear Park, Frederick at Sailing Through Winter Solstice.  Lighting up the night is an age-old winter custom.  Boats adorned with unique designs bring joy to visitors and the display helps raise funds for local charities. This event runs through February 8, 2020 from dusk ‘til dawn.
