Just as report cards help parents understand how their students are performing, Maryland is introducing the new School Report Cards in order for students, parents, educators and community members to better understand how their schools are performing. The School Report Card provides a starting point and offers easy-to-understand and concise information for each school.
Every school will receive a report that shows the following:
- The percentage of points the school earned compared to the possible points on the state’s new accountability system
- A percentile rank that compares the school to other schools in the state.
- A star rating with a 5-star school being the best possible rating.
- academic achievement
- academic progress
- progress in achieving English language proficiency
- measures of school quality and student success.
- academic achievement
- graduation rate
- progress in English language proficiency
- readiness for post-secondary success
- measures of school quality and student success.

Regardless of any one school’s final score, the Maryland School Report Card represents the opportunity to empower and inform schools, parents and community members so that every school in the state can succeed. It not only provides data about all our schools, but also hopes to bring together the data in a usable way to help us ask questions, find answers, make decisions and act.
